Deputy Head of Resident Doctors – Critical Care

We’re looking for a Deputy Head of Resident Doctors to join our team at The Princess Grace Hospital, currently rated “Good” by the CQC. Located in the heart of London, The Princess Grace Hospital is renowned for handling a wide range of complex cases and providing exceptional, patient-centred care within a state-of-the-art, consultant-led environment.
As our Deputy Head of Resident Doctors, you’ll play a key role in our consultant-led structure, overseeing and delivering high-quality care within our Critical Care and ITU units. Reporting to the Head of Resident Doctors, you’ll serve as the clinical expert, managing patient care from admission through discharge, coordinating daily ward rounds, and responding to urgent medical needs, including airway management. This is an exceptional opportunity to build strong partnerships with top consultants, support the professional development of a small team of Critical Care Doctors, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge-sharing.

What You’ll Do
- Support day-to-day operations in Critical Care Ward and ITU, managing patient care through the Resident Doctors Team delivery, under the direction of the lead Consultants.
- Process all patient medical activity from admission through to discharge.
- Support the name Codaily rounds, and respond to emergencies
- Lead workforce planning to maintain patient-to-doctor ratios; ensuring rotas meet patient needs, budgets are managed and teams feel supported.
- Drive quality improvement projects, enhance efficiencies, and explore new ways to increase patient satisfaction
- Conduct audits, engage in research, and standardise high-quality medical practices
- Recruit, induct, train, and supervise new Resident Doctors for permanent and temporary positions.
- Provide mentorship and development opportunities, leveraging your Critical Care expertise to foster team growth
- In your clinical time you will be working along you MDT in the capacity of a Resident Doctor
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- Bayes EMML Fellowship (Executive Masters in Medical Leadership) or willingness to undertake (funded by HCA)
- A minimum 5 years’ experience in Critical Care/Anaesthetic medical training
- Royal College Membership with post-grade exams
- Proven experience in workforce planning, clinical education, and training supervision
- A history of managing a diverse team and handling employee matters

- For 40 hours full time contracts, 264 hours holiday each year (inclusive of bank holidays) increasing with service, with option to buy or sell leave to suit you. This is pro-rata for part time contracts.
