Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team as Deputy Director of Intelligence.
The Avon and Somerset Constabulary Intelligence Department is a diverse and dynamic team of over 200 officers and staff, that cover the geography of the Avon and Somerset area. The department manages and processes all Intelligence and provides high quality tactical and strategic intelligence products to colleagues across the force to support the identification and disruption of offending, including serious and organised crime, and to safeguard the public.
Each day is different - as Deputy Director of Intelligence you will work closely with the Superintendent, Director of Intelligence and the Detective Chief Inspector, Deputy Director of Intelligence to drive performance and ensure high quality service delivery of overt and covert intelligence capabilities for the force.
Under your leadership you will help to shape and implement a robust delivery model, fit to meet the requirements of changing strategic threats, and to ensure a cost efficient, professional and outstanding intelligence led approach for the organisation.

Please note that we have recently received confirmation that a 4.75% pay increase for police staff roles has been agreed for 2024/25. Additional Information
This role is based at Police Headquarters in Portishead, and you will also have the opportunity to work from home for a proportion of your working week.
You will be expected to travel within the force area as required.
Shortlisting will take place week commencing 11th November.

In This Role Your Main Responsibilities Will Be
- Drive compliance and quality in the delivery of the NIM and force Intelligence capability working in partnership and engaging with stakeholders internally, Regionally and Nationally to ensure a coordinated and collaborative service delivery.
- Work with Performance and Insight to identify performance improvement and assurance strategies, activities and strategic intelligence products, engaging with stakeholders and overseeing and reporting on relevant activities undertaken.
- Prioritise, coordinate and manage the delivery of key Intelligence capabilities, performance improvement and assurance activities across the operational teams of staff in the Intelligence Grid.
- Ensure the cost effective and efficient delivery of services, monitoring and authorising budget expenditure, along with robust workforce planning strategies and high focus on staff welfare and wellbeing.
- You will be responsible for maintaining a global view of activities across the eight core Intelligence teams, including overt, covert and high harm intelligence tactics, supporting relevant managers to manage staff welfare / performance and to deliver outcomes and learning to ensure high-performing and compliant Intelligence capabilities
- Hold IPP (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme) accreditation or willing to gain it
- You don’t need to have police experience, but should have strong leadership, communication, negotiation and influencing skills
- You have decision-making skills at tactical and strategic level.
- You have problem solving and risk management skills.
- You promote a collaborative team working approach.
- You have proven experience of effectively managing staff and performance.
- You can evidence effective welfare management skills and experience.
