About The Role

As a Depot Assistant, you'll play a key part in keeping our depots running safely and efficiently. Working alongside experienced Service Engineers, you'll help carry out routine checks, repairs, and maintenance on assets, equipment, and building systems.

You'll gain valuable hands-on experience across a wide range of disciplines, including:

  • Mechanical & Electrical systems
  • Buildings & Fabric maintenance
  • Drainage and Plumbing
  • Carpentry and Specialist Equipment servicing

You'll also support the wider London Region team, which covers five Railway Engineering Depots, collaborating with multiskilled engineers, team leaders, and contractors to maintain high standards across all our facilities.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assisting engineers with maintenance and repair tasks
  • Carrying out inspections and updating records using our CAFM system (Asset Pro)
  • Responding to maintenance requests and ensuring work is completed efficiently
  • Supporting both planned and reactive maintenance activities
  • Developing your technical knowledge through on-the-job learning and training

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who's practical, proactive, and eager to learn. Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience in an Engineering or Facilities Maintenance environment (transferable skills welcome)
  • Physical fitness and ability to pass an engineering medical
  • Willingness to complete PTS and Designated Person (Track) training
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Good problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills
  • A passion for teamwork and continuous learning

If you've completed an apprenticeship or have equivalent technical training, that's a bonus — but it's not essential. What matters most is your enthusiasm and commitment to developing your career with us.

Why Join Us?

  • Hands-on experience in a safety-critical engineering environment
  • Continuous professional development and on-the-job training
  • Work as part of a supportive and experienced infrastructure team
  • Opportunity to grow within the railway industry
