Our client, a global alternative IM, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join their Data team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, testing, and maintenance of the data platform, ensuring the availability, reliability, and integrity of the data. You will interact and build relationships directly with the client's front office and technology teams.
The role will entail exposure to a wide variety of data types with significant opportunities to master different practices, tools and skills and allow you to apply your experience and insight to solve interesting real-world data challenges across multiple asset classes.
Responsibilities:
Our client is a global alternative investment fund manager combining relative value and directional trading across global macro asset classes to generate uncorrelated returns. The core portfolio structure of intersecting product verticals is designed to deliver for investors in all market conditions. Currently employing over 225 people between their London, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore offices.

The role will entail exposure to a wide variety of data types with significant opportunities to master different practices, tools and skills and allow you to apply your experience and insight to solve interesting real-world data challenges across multiple asset classes.
Responsibilities:
- Regular interation with the front office to understand and scope data needs or capabilities
- Operation and build-out of the data platform using in-house and vendor data tools
- Analysis and implementation of data automation tasks and processes
- Creation of data pipelines from various data providers to populate the firm's data platform
- Curation of external and internal datasets to meet the front office's data needs
- Design and implementation of best-practice and pragmatic data design
- Develop and implement data standards and quality rules
- Experience in a data specialist role, a passion for working with data and helping stakeholders
- Highly proficient in SQL, Python and Apache Spark, with demonstrable work experience using these tools in a production context
- A minimum 2.1 degree obtained in Computer Science, or a related field, ideally from a Russell Group university
- Databricks and Microsoft Azure experience is a plus
- Financial services experience a bonus, but is not essential
- Confident verbal and written communications
- Ability to communicate complex data concepts in a relatable way
- The ability to complete tasks independently to a high standard with minimal oversight
- Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on scalable, high quality solutions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for data discrepancies and inaccuracies
- A desire to understand & solve business problems, build domain knowledge & increase market understanding
