Are you passionate about delivering quality Bereavement service for Luton Borough Council? We’re seeking a dedicated Crematorium Technician/ Chapel Attendant to join our team and help undertake all technical duties relating to the cremation service.

Duties will include carrying out cremations, acting as chapel attendant and witnessing the internment or scattering of cremated remains in accordance with the Cremation (England and Wales) Regulations 2008, and the Guiding Principles of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management.

Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to have the ability to work as part of a small team and work on own initiative.

You must have demonstrable organisation skill; the ability to organize own workload and react to changing work demands at short notice.

It is vital that you have excellent communication skills: you must be able to deal with members of the public in a polite and helpful manner including the bereaved who may be upset. You will need to have an understanding of or have an awareness of different cultural needs within funeral practice.

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
