This job is for a Trust Doctor (equivalent to ST1/2) to provide care for patients for designated Consultant/team at ward level providing support to F1s and receiving support/training from both Senior trainees and Consultant staff. Whilst this post will not be recognised for training, there is a strong educational component with dedicated training in clinical, professional and personal skills.

Main duties of the job
The Post Holder Will:
- Provide care of acute patients under the guidance of the senior staff and will include assisting the Consultants at outpatient clinics and theatre sessions.
- Be expected to provide teaching to nursing staff and under graduate students.
- Be expected to participate in audits and research as arranged by the firms.
- Perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with their colleagues both senior and junior.
- Duties will mainly be 07:45 - 17:00. On call will be covered by a shift system of long days and nights. Average hours will be under 48.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
- Participate in morning trauma meeting and (when on-call) evening handover.
- Ward cover, handover and morning ward round of all patients, ensuring the action plan from the handover is carried out and that there is proper daily documentation in the notes . Answer all ward calls and attend as required. Maintain an updated inpatient list.
- On theatre days, carry out preoperative patient review with your team and assist with surgery, documentation and ensure the postoperative plan is followed. Review your postoperative patients that are staying overnight.
- When on-call, take A& E and external referrals and those from other departments, review them and formulate a management plan with senior input. Maintain an updated patient database.
- Comply at all times with the Trusts dress code.
- Observe Trust policy on prevention of infection including hand washing and remaining bare below the elbows in all patient areas.
- Take responsibility for your continuing professional development and attend Trust essential training, any clinical updates and Trust Academic Half Days as appropriate.
- Undergo an annual appraisal as part of maintaining medical registration as required for Revalidation.

- Satisfactory completion of Foundation training (or equivalent ) at the time of taking up post
- Able to contribute to teaching and learning of others in the clinical setting
- Has participated in clinical audit
