This is a fixed term/secondment vacancy until 30/09/2026 due to funding.

Hywel Dda University Health Board are looking for a nurse to embark on an exciting cancer nursing rotation programme. This programme will encompass clinical placements within Head and Neck, Upper GI, Breast and Colorectal.

We have developed a training and development programme and using the core cancer capabilities in practice framework set out by the ACCEND programme, we will help you develop the skills and support the learning that is required for nurses who wish to embark on a career as a cancer clinical nurse specialist.

With opportunities to attend various in and out-patient and community settings, our external organisations including Swansea Bay Heath Board and charities - who support our patient’s cancer trajectory, you will gain knowledge and experience of the cancer key worker role, holistic needs assessment and nurse-led clinics.

Main duties of the job

The base location would Glangwilli but with an expectation to travel to the other hospital sites for training as directed by the senior nurse and expected to travel within a timely manner to meet expectations of the service delivery plan.

The posts will have protected time to learn with colleagues and regular clinical supervision and there will be an expectation that you will undertake Level 7 education and complete an online portfolio.

You will provide a high-quality service within Hywel Dda University Health Board to patients with suspected and diagnosed with lung cancer.

The post holder works as part of the multi-professional team, ensuring this group of patients receive the highest standards of care and support from time of diagnosis and throughout the cancer pathway.

The role will encompass all aspects of the patient care pathway, from pre-diagnosis, diagnosis, treatment and follow up in both the outpatient and inpatient environments.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Two integrated care centres (Aberaeron and Cardigan, Ceredigion).

Community facilities, including:

48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
