Entegro are seeking an experienced Clerk of Works who will enhance our existing Operations Team in Cumbria.

The Clerk of Works (Streetworks) is responsible for ensuring that Streetworks projects are carried out to the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance with relevant specifications, regulations, and contracts. This role ensures that all traffic management plans are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with legal and contractual requirements. The Clerk of Works ensures the safety of both the workforce and the general public, while minimising traffic disruption.

Responsibilities What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct regular and thorough inspections of Streetworks projects to ensure that works conform to approved designs, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Ensure that all Streetworks comply with local authority guidelines, health and safety regulations, and NRSWA requirements.
  • Ensure traffic management systems are in place and are compliant with safety regulations, particularly in high-traffic areas.
  • Verify that signage, barriers, cones, and temporary traffic signals are installed as per the approved traffic management plan (TMP) and conform to Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs manual and other relevant standards.
  • Maintain quality assurance documentation and records.
  • Conduct health and safety audits on Streetworks sites, ensuring that safety regulations are adhered to and that workers are provided with appropriate protective equipment.
  • Liaise with project managers, operations managers, field supervisors, contractors, and local authorities to ensure smooth project delivery and resolve any on-site issues.
  • Attend site meetings and contribute to discussions on project progress, compliance, and any arising concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all inspections, tests, and assessments carried out during the project.
  • Prepare detailed reports on the progress, quality, and safety of Streetworks, and submit these to project managers and relevant authorities.
  • Identify any potential issues or hazards related to traffic management and ensure corrective actions are taken immediately.
  • Assess traffic management requirements for permit applications.
  • Verify photos taken by the field team to ensure compliance with NRSWA.

Skills Required What You Will Have

  • A thorough understanding of NRSWA and other relevant highway legislation.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Significant experience in traffic management or road construction, with a focus on implementing and overseeing traffic management plans.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Traffic Signs Manual (Chapter 8), the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), and other relevant traffic management legislation.
  • Strong understanding of traffic management systems and the ability to interpret traffic management plans.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to manage relationships with contractors, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal working hours, including weekends, if necessary.
  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude
