Claims Team Lead - Angel Risk Management

Angel Risk Management specialises in underwriting products for the small to medium-sized sector on behalf of AXA XL - the global insurer that combines financial security with a nimble and empowered approach. AXA XL provides property, casualty, professional and specialty products to industrial, commercial and professional businesses, insurers and enterprises through the world.
The majority of Angel online business is underwritten either via the Angel Underwriting bespoke system from the Angel Chelmsford office or the Angel online quick quote system. A typical Angel broker would usually be a smaller and predominately regionally focused broker, often independently owned.
As a Claims Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading the in-house Angel Claims function and team that sits alongside our Underwriting business.
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.

What you’ll be doing
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Acting as part of the broader Claims team at AXA XL, you will be responsible for delivering on key priorities aligned to the UK & Lloyd’s strategy alongside resource allocation and workload within the team.
- Drive and manage performance of a team of Claims Adjusters including ensuring the setting of SMART objectives, undertaking performance reviews and ensuring that colleagues are supported with their career aspirations and development.
- Drive operational effectiveness of the team and compliance with key performance indicators and operational controls.
- Effectively manage a portfolio of claims in accordance with your agreed authority and the Claims Handler Guidelines.
- Provide oversight and direction to the team related to coverage analysis, investigation, defence, evaluation, reserving and resolution of a book of product specific claims.
- Ensure the appropriate governance over large losses and liaising with Claims Practice Leaders.
- Act as the key claims contact for Angel Underwriting, Actuarial, and key stakeholders in connection with claims trends and insights, lessons learned, marketing and business development.
- Represent Angel at market committees and large loss market meetings where required.
- Act as the lead contact for complex losses, providing support to Underwriters and Claims Adjusters and be at ease discussing claims issues direct with our brokers and clients.
- Deliver prompt, fair, innovative and accurate claims service, enhancing deep broker and client relationships
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Advanced knowledge of Claims aligned with the Angel Product offering, with the ability to discuss claims issues directly with our brokers and clients.
- A client first mindset with the ability to build and enhance broker and client relationships
- Excellent people management skills
- Familiarity with both Lloyd’s and Company Market, systems and protocols.
- Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to execute plans.
