Ground Control is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Specialist to join our dynamic and innovative team. We are an entrepreneurial, fast-paced organisation leading the way in biodiversity conservation and sustainability through cutting-edge strategies and we are at an exciting stage of growth. This role will suit a proactive, driven individual with a passion for making an impact in the BNG industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage planning projects with a specific focus on achieving Biodiversity Net Gain.
- Provide expert advice on biodiversity conservation and enhancement strategies to internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders
- Develop and implement Biodiversity Net Gain strategies in alignment with relevant legislation, metrics, and best practices
- Build and maintain relationships with Local Planning Authorities, conservation organizations, Wildlife Trusts, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with ecologists, landscape architects, and engineers to integrate biodiversity considerations into projects.
- Prepare technical reports for planning submission, condition discharge and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in biodiversity conservation and planning policy.
- Manage, mentor and support junior staff members in understanding biodiversity-related planning processes.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, Ecology, Planning, or a related field.
- Full member of CIEEM
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental planning, with a focus on biodiversity.
- Strong understanding of biodiversity legislation, including national and local policies.
- Proven experience in managing projects focused on Biodiversity Net Gain and working with tools like the Statutory Metric.
- Familiarity with ecological principles, habitat assessments, and species surveys.
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Experience in engaging with government bodies and local authorities with established contacts.
- Proficiency in planning software such as GIS and ecological modelling tools, alongside Microsoft Office Suite.
