Are you a dedicated Bid Manager looking to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation? At Tarmac, we are on the lookout for a Bid Manager to join our team.
About The Role
Reporting into the General Manager for Contracting, the successful Bid Manager will be responsible for the development of the National Road Planning commercial strategy that supports the effective delivery of the commercial elements of the business plans and objectives. You will also be identifying and securing key strategic commercial opportunities to deliver budgeted volumes, margin expectations and growth and ensuring robust competitive tenders are submitted on time and of a high-quality standard.
Geographically, we are not precious on location, but you will be expected to be at our Market Rasen site in Lincolnshire a couple of days per week. The majority of the remainder of the week will be involved in visiting other Tarmac sites mainly around the Midlands where you will be pricing up work and aiming to win it.
Due to the nature of the work, a company car will be provided.

What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you as the successful Bid Manager will be carrying out the following duties and responsibilities (not exhaustive):
- Taking a lead role in identifying and securing a pipeline of commercial opportunities to secure a long-term work pipeline
- Contributing to the development and effective delivery of the business unit commercial strategy
- Ensuring competitive tenders are submitted, key targeted contracts are won taking into account business capacity, margins, financial and contractual risks
- Undertaking pre-contract commercial reviews with the operations and QS teams to identify opportunities and risk within proposed future contracts
- Managing the production and submission of all tender information relating to commercial functions, including external commercial consultancy resources
- Encouraging and promoting the use of alternative sustainable internal materials
- Managing and developing beneficial commercial relationships with new and existing customers & clients to develop and expand market share in line with the national commercial strategy
We are looking for someone who is:
- Someone with proven experience in a commercial role with an in-depth understand of contractual documentation
- Have a high level of attention to detail with analytical skillset
- Negotiation skills
- Previous experience with pre-qualification questionnaires and quality submissions for tender reviews
