The Role
We're seeking a dedicated and proactive Behaviour Mentor to join the pastoral team at our secondary school in Blackburn. You will provide targeted support to students facing behavioural challenges, helping them develop positive habits, stay engaged in learning, and thrive within our school community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring to students needing behavioural support.
- Develop and implement individualised behaviour support plans with staff, parents/carers, and pastoral leaders.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students-offering consistent guidance and serving as a role model.
- Support students in understanding the impact of their behaviour and developing self-regulation strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers, Year Leaders, SENCO, and key staff to ensure a coordinated behaviour strategy.
- Keep accurate records of interventions and monitor student progress.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives that promote positive behaviour.
- Support students during lessons, break times, and transitions as needed.
- Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
- Adhere to all school policies, especially safeguarding and child protection protocols.
- Experience working with young people in a mentoring, pastoral, or behavioural support role within the UK education system or a similar context.
- Solid understanding of factors influencing behaviour in secondary-aged students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students presenting challenging behaviour.
- Resilient, patient, and consistent in your approach.
- Passionate about supporting young people's social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Organised, with strong record-keeping skills.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
- UK-based qualifications/training in behaviour management, counselling, or youth work.
- Experience designing and implementing behaviour support plans.
- Familiarity with UK legislation and guidance on behaviour in schools.
- Experience working with students with SEND or behavioural needs.
- Team Teach or equivalent training.
- Valid DBS registered on the Update Service.
- Make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people.
- Join a supportive, collaborative pastoral team.
- Access to relevant training and professional development.
