Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the 5 to 19 Leicester City school nursing team. Our teams work within Public Health Nursing to deliver the Healthy Child Programme. We are agile workers, which includes face to face clinical work in schools as well as office and home working. We are pleased to offer full and part time job opportunities. Our core working hours are 8.30am-4.30 Monday-Friday.

Public Health Nursing seeks to promote and protect the health of children and young people. We do this by promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing the likelihood of ill health through delivery of the Healthy Child Programme. Public Health Nursing is central to giving children the best start in life and to reach their full potential. We offer early intervention as physical and mental health issues emerge, referring to specialist services as required.

We would love to meet you if you are an enthusiastic and self-motivated Registered Nurse who has experience of working with children, young people and families. Our teams are busy, high achieving and dynamic consisting of committed and skilled people who want to deliver the best possible care for children and their families. School nursing offers a range of services to meet the varying needs of the local population, which includes our well-developed digital offer. This includes the award-winning Chat Health text messaging service.

Job Description Summary (Main Duties And Responsibilities)

  • Delivery of effective health care within the organisation
  • Support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme using evidence-based practice to actively promote the health of children, young people and families
  • Develop, deliver and engage in health promotion programmes that aim to prevent ill health, support early identification of health needs and work with individuals, education and communities to reduce health inequalities.
  • 1-2-1 work for school-age child, working at Universal Plus and Partnership Plus levels
  • Act as whole-family safeguarding caseload holder including strategy calls, Children in Need, children with Child Protection plans, universal contacts for children on the safeguarding caseload
  • Deliver the Healthy Together continence offer
  • Support early intervention and referral for emotional health issues
  • Co-ordinate and support the completion of health questionnaires in schools
  • Undertake comprehensive health assessments for identified children and young people
