Salary: £83.33 - £90.00 per day (Depending on experience)

If so, GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Autism Assistant to provide full-time support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a school setting in Scunthorpe. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people with additional needs, fostering their personal and academic development.

Responsibilities As An Autism Assistant

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to students with ASD, ensuring their individual learning and social needs are met.
  • Assist in implementing strategies from students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to support their learning and emotional development.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe and valued.
  • Help manage sensory sensitivities and behaviours by using calming techniques and resources.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to deliver consistent and effective interventions.
  • Monitor and report on students’ progress to inform future support plans.
  • Encourage social interaction and support students in developing key communication skills.
    • Follow the school’s safeguarding and behaviour management policies to ensure the well-being of all students.
Requirements For The As An Autism Assistant

  • Experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder or in a similar SEN role.
  • Knowledge of strategies to support students with ASD, such as visual aids, structured routines, or sensory regulation techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Health and Social Care) is desirable but not essential.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
