Planning/Urban Design Assistant

Salary: £23,000 - £28,000 depending on experience.

Location: Office-based full-time, with potential for some home working after an initial 6-9 month period.

We are seeking a Planning/Urban Design Assistant to join our client and support their designers at every stage of the development process. Key Responsibilities

• Research & Policy Analysis: Conduct thorough research on local and national policy to inform the design process for residential projects.
• Site Assessment & Neighbourhood Characterisation: Assist in defining site parameters and understanding neighbourhood context to guide design development.
• Client Liaison: Collaborate with clients to ensure their requirements and aspirations are fully understood and integrated into the scheme.
• Pre-Application Support: Help manage and prepare pre-application submissions, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
• Design Development: Support the evolution of the design as it progresses toward a formal planning application.
• Design and Access Statement Preparation: Assist in the creation and management of Design and Access Statements.
• Supporting Documentation: Contribute to the preparation of briefing documents, presentations, consultation materials, and other supporting information.
  
  
  

Skills & Experience

• A solid understanding of local policy and guidance to provide clear and concise summaries to the design team and clients.
• Strong written communication skills with a good grasp of urban design terminology.
• Basic proficiency in InDesign, with the ability to create and format written documents, incorporating simple graphics and layouts.
  
  
  

Opportunity

• Further your skills in InDesign, working towards mastery in creating polished, professional documents.
• Gain familiarity with the Adobe Suite to enhance presentation materials and graphics.
• Progress your involvement in shaping and advancing design principles for new developments.
• Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Unreal Engine would be advantageous, but not essential. Training and support will be provided to help you grow into the role.
