Job Summary

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs over 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army such as using data to aid understanding of our workforce is vital.

102 Logistic Brigade is to be prepared to deploy trained force elements, including the Brigade Headquarters, world-wide, within Readiness to Deploy in order to support 1 UK Divisions’ military contribution to a national, NATO or multi-national force. Responsible for the setting up of field hospitals and evacuation of casualties from theatre. Involves complex logistic processes and requires a detailed plan for ammunition fuel, transport, prisoners of war, humanitarian assistance, rear area security and medical operations.

159 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) is an Army Reserve Logistic Regiment, made up five squadrons spread across the Midlands. Their operational role is to augment their sister regular regiments with supply capability. We regularly deploy soldiers on operations and maintain our warfighting capability through deliberate, high-quality training.

159 RLC is looking for a friendly, well-organised and adaptable Equipment Support Manager to join our encouraging and welcoming team of dedicated military and civil servants.

The primary location of the position is the Army Reserve Centre (ARC) in Telford, however you will have responsibility for the second facility at the ARC in Stoke on Trent which you will be required to travel to. There will also be occasions when you will be required to travel to the other unit sites (Canley, West Bromwich and Burton on Trent) to conduct meetings, supervision and assurance/audit activity.

The vacant post is a full-time position and advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

As the Equipment Support Manager you will be responsible for the control, management and coordination of all Level 2 Equipment Support (ES) and supervision of ES related elements of Equipment Care (EC) within the unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Line Management of three civilian Fitters.
  • Ensure the proper tools are available and used when appropriate. They are to be in serviceable condition and in calibration where necessary, a nominated individual within the Squadrons being given specific responsibility for this.
  • Ensure all Fitters comply with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Ensure the unit’s inspection programme is implemented.
  • Important part in the interface between the user carrying out Equipment Care (EC) and Equipment Support (ES) provision. The Equipment Manager is to ensure effective ES is provided to the Regt.
  • In conjunction with the (Motor Transport Warrant Officer (MTWO) and squadron (Sqn) Motor Transport Senior Non-Commissioned Officer’s (MT SNCO’s) you are responsible for the following: Maintaining a Damage Report register. Originals and copies are to be distributed as per direction at Chapter 3 of the Unit Equipment care Directive.
  • Running and maintaining the Regimental Equipment Failure Reports register and ensuring all raised Equipment Failure Reports are done accurately and managed effectively using Joint Asset Management Equipment Support (JAMES) Component Re-ports when equipment is supported on JAMES.
  • Action any warranty repair and maintaining the Regimental warranty repair register, in conjunction with Squadron Fitters.
  • Taking the lead on all Serious Safety Signals received to unit.
  • Ensuring Army Equipment Support Publication Technical Library remains 100% accurate.
  • Maintenance and servicing are conducted in accordance with policy and amendment number.
  • Regimental lead for all Lifting Equipment and is to maintain registers in accordance with policy. The Equipment Manager is deemed competent Master Lifting
  • Equipment Record Keepers by Brigade Electrical and Mechanical Engineer.
  • Responsible in conjunction with the Squadron MT SNCO’s for the correct testing and recording of the Sub Unit lifting tackle, cranes, winches, recovery and miscellaneous mechanical and electrical equipment.

Person specification

Essential Skills And Qualifications:

  • You will have had experience of maintaining electronic and hard copy documentation and line management of staff.
  • NVQ Level 4 in mechanical engineering, or Higher National Certificate or Higher National Diploma in mechanical engineering, or NVQ Level 3 (Ordinary National Certificate or Ordinary National Diploma) with relevant experience.

  • UK Driving Licence – Cat B, B+E, C and C+E

Desirable Skills:

  • Evidence of experience of vehicle workshop management at a senior level.
  • Experience in a management role in an engineering workshop carrying out maintenance, modification, inspection certification and testing of wheeled vehicles up to HGV. Also, inspection and testing of ancillary equipment including water heater, generating equipment and high-pressure washers and the management of Lifting and Recovery Equipment.
  • ISO 9001 QMS or equivalent
  • Lifting and recovery
  • Health and Safety manager in an Engineering environment

Licences

UK Driving Licence – Cat B, B+E, C and C+E

Qualifications

NVQ Level 4 in mechanical engineering, or Higher National Certificate or Higher National Diploma in mechanical engineering, or NVQ Level 3 (Ordinary National Certificate or Ordinary National Diploma) with relevant experience. Minimum of 4 years experience as a DVSA Inspector.
