A key leadership and management role at a senior level within ReMind UK. A member of the Senior Leadership Team, this role will generate and build strategic partnerships through excellent communications and networking skills across organisational boundaries, (including Alzheimer’s Society UKDTN Research Nurse network, UK wide UKDTN Centres, Memory Assessment Services and local/regional Mental Health, acute and community services) to advance and enable access to early phase clinical research trials in dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) at ReMind UK.
Salary Range: 48,500 – £52,500 depending on experience
Contract Type: Fixed Term (36 months), full time

The Role:
In this role you will be liaising with clinical investigators and both commercial and non commercial sponsors, embedding yourself to facilitate effective referral pathways and increase opportunities for individuals affected by neurodegenerative diseases, dementia or MCI to participate in early phase clinical trials. You will oversee the management and delivery of early phase dementia trial protocols and will be involved in ensuring that the research undertaken safeguards the well-being of the patients and is conducted within research governance legislation and ReMind UK policies for Research.
The post holder will be expected to participate fully in their personal development and annual review process in order to achieve the objectives for this role. This will include engagement in ReMind UK, Alzheimer’s Society and UKDTN educational and development opportunities and preparation of an annual report to be submitted to the Alzheimer’s Society and the UKDTN on progress against strategic aims of the programmes. Post holders must be prepared to work across the South West geographical footprint and there will be an element of UK wide travel (anticipated to be held quarterly).
This role will provide leadership in early phase dementia and MCI clinical research delivery locally and regionally. Ensuring oversight of the early phase dementia clinical trials portfolio locally and managing overall recruitment to the portfolio within a regional and national collaborative strategy to ensure recruitment targets are achieved.
Key responsibilities
• Lead, develop and motivate staff to achieve the aims and objectives of ReMind UK and Alzheimer’s Society Research Nurse programmes.
• Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice regulatory requirements for clinical studies within the post-holder’s remit (early phase dementia and mild cognitive impairment CTIMPs and ATIMPs).
• Review the early phase dementia and mild cognitive impairment portfolio for feasibility, resource allocation and support service impact.
• Liaise with multiple agencies/departments (study Sponsor, funders, trials coordinating centres, service support departments) to set-up and plan recruitment strategies to clinical trials.
• Compile, contribute to and present ReMind UK early phase dementia and mild cognitive impairment reports to funders (such as milestone reports for Alzheimer’s Society and UKDTN).
• Lead local and regional public and patient involvement and engagement in early phase dementia and MCI clinical research.
• Present the work of ReMind UK, UKDTN and Alzheimer’s Society Research Nurse Programme to healthcare professionals, patients and the public (including commercial partners, the Chief Scientist Office, volunteers and patient groups).
• Identify, facilitate and deliver workforce development opportunities through learning and education.
• Provide a key role in leading, supporting and participating in strategic early phase dementia and mild cognitive impairment priorities through UKDTN, Alzheimer’s Society and ReMind UK strategies.
Research Leadership and Delivery
• Lead the implementation and oversight of early phase dementia and MCI clinical trials at ReMind UK.
• Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, and ethical standards.
• Collaborate with Alzheimer’s Society and UKDTN to meet strategic KPIs and contribute to national reporting.
• Assess feasibility of new studies, manage study resources, and contribute to contract negotiations with sponsors.
Clinical Excellence
• Provide expert clinical care and oversight for trial participants, ensuring safety and protocol adherence.
• Embed within local and regional clinical networks to facilitate referrals and increase trial participation.
• Support multidisciplinary teams in delivering ATIMPs and complex Phase I trials.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and data integrity.
Ambassadorship & Stakeholder Engagement
• Act as a visible ambassador for ReMind UK, Alzheimer’s Society, and UKDTN at local, regional, and national levels.
• Represent ReMind UK at conferences, media engagements, and public events to raise awareness of dementia research.
• Build relationships with NHS Trusts, Memory Assessment Services, academic institutions, community services, third sector and commercial partners.
Education & Workforce Development
• Lead training and mentorship programmes to build research capacity within ReMind UK and partner organisations.
• Deliver tailored education on early phase trial processes, regulatory compliance, and dementia care.
• Support the development of SOPs and quality assurance tools for research delivery.
Management & Governance
• Provide day-to-day leadership for Research Nurse (Outreach) and support staff.
• Monitor team performance, conduct performance development reviews, and support career development.
• Contribute to ReMind UK’s research governance, safeguarding, and quality improvement initiatives.
• An active member of ReMind UK’s Senior Leadership Team, attending regular meetings and presenting the views and activities of the early phase research within a strategic context
Essential Criteria
• Registered Nurse (NMC) with significant post-registration experience.
• Educated to Master’s level or equivalent experience in healthcare or research.
• Demonstrated leadership in clinical research, preferably in dementia or neurodegeneration.
• Strong understanding of GCP, research governance, and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to accurately and clearly document results, observations and findings.
• Proven empathetic and caring approach to patients and relatives, and assure patient confidentiality, dignity and respect at all times.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across diverse teams.
• A current driving licence and the availability of a car insured for business use
Desirable Criteria
• Experience in ATIMP or Phase I trial delivery.
• Familiarity with dementia rating scales and clinical assessments.
• Experience in charity or non-NHS research environments.
• Media training or public speaking experience.
• Qualified to carry out venepuncture
• Qualified to cannulate and administer intravenous fluids
