AIT Mechanical & Electrical Lab Technician

Astroscale UK is looking for a technician grade mechanical and electrical lab technician, with ESA harness wiring expertise, to support the AIT team with assembly and test of spacecraft and subsystems. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the management of the cleanroom and the development lab.

Responsibilities

  • ESA Wiring & Assembly:
    • Perform high-reliability wiring and assembly tasks adhering to ESA standards
    • Build, repair and install wire harnesses for flight & test.
    • Crimp, solder, and terminate wires to terminals, connectors, and equipment.
    • Conduct electrical testing and fault identification using appropriate equipment.
    • Mechanical subsystem assembly
  • Laboratory & Cleanroom Management:
    • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the development laboratory and cleanroom.
    • Manage laboratory equipment, including scheduling
    • Ensure laboratory safety by conducting regular inspections and implementing safety protocols.
    • Maintain accurate records of all laboratory equipment and inventory. Technical Expertise:
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
    • Understand and interpret mechanical engineering drawings
    • Proficiency in using hand tools (wire strippers, crimpers) and power tools (drills, saws).
    • Adhere to strict quality control standards and procedures.
  • Space Industry Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with the unique challenges and requirements of working in the space industry, such as high-reliability connections and radiation tolerance.
    • Knowledge of adhesives used on flight hardware
    • Experience working in cleanroom environments.
Essential Skills

  • Perform high-reliability wiring and assembly tasks adhering to ESA standards (ECSS-Q-ST-70-26, ECSS-Q-ST-70-61C).
  • Experience of MS Excel, MS Word
