Job Summary
Are you an experienced Allied Health Professional (AHP) with a passion for education and workforce development? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our Education and Training Team as a Workforce Development Lead for AHPs. This pivotal role will focus on enhancing education, training, and workforce development for pre-registration and qualified AHPs, supporting their career journey from entry to expert practice.

Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Education and Training Team and working closely with the Associate Director of AHPs, the post holder will lead initiatives to support the development and education of the AHP workforce. This includes registered and unregistered practitioners, pre-registration students, apprentices, individuals returning to practice, those returning after retirement, and international recruits across the Trust.
You will collaborate with service lines to evaluate current educational offerings, develop innovative training strategies, and align workforce development with the NHS Long-Term Workforce Plan. Your expertise will directly impact the professional growth of AHPs and ensure a robust pipeline of skilled practitioners.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
- Lead the transformation of AHP educational services across Great Western Hospital, fostering innovative and evidence-based learning opportunities.
- Collaborate with AHP service lines to review current educational practices and align them with workforce development strategies.
- Support and mentor undergraduate and apprentice learners, new recruits, and registered practitioners seeking development opportunities.
- Partner with the nursing student placement lead, preceptorship lead, and AHP clinical practice educator to facilitate work-based learning and provide comprehensive support for educators in their roles
- Strengthen relationships with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and other educational providers to enhance learning environments and build a sustainable pipeline of AHP learners.
- Act as a role model and mentor, championing high-quality, evidence-based education to meet the needs of students and NHS England requirements
- Collaborate across the Bath, Swindon, and Wiltshire (BSW) system to maximise learning opportunities for smaller workforce groups, driving system-wide impact.
Qualifications
Qualifications Essential
- Registered AHP or NMC registered nurse
- Teaching and assessing qualification e.g. Pg vert in clinical education
- Masters Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
- Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
- Leadership course
- Management qualification
- Significant experience of AHP clinical practice
- Up to date knowledge of HCPC standards for student education and best practice within speciality area and application of this in practice
- Understanding and application of the principles of clinical governance, risk and safety management, clinical auditing and assurance framework
- Experience of working as a mentor/preceptor
- Management experience
- knowledge and understanding of AHP strategic drivers such AHP into action
- Understanding of AHP workforce planning and barriers
- Ability to apply critical thinking/independent judgement to identify solutions to variable problems
- Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to others
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work with others
- Accepts responsibility working under own initiative within the boundaries of the role
