Job Overview
As part of our ongoing development in cardiovascular services, our Cardiology Department has grown to include an expanding Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) service. We are looking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist with specialist expertise in CRM to join our dedicated team at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.
This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in the delivery and development of CRM services, including the follow-up and programming of pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices at Prince Philip Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently within specialist device clinics and contribute to the wider cardiology service, including supporting cardiac device implant and arrhythmia management where appropriate.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of consultants, cardiac physiologists, specialist nurses, and administrative staff to provide high-quality and patient-focused service. The post also includes responsibilities for the supervision and development of junior staff and participation in ongoing service improvement initiatives.
Main duties of the job
Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services to almost 400,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest.
Five community hospitals: Amman Valley Hospital and Llandovery Hospital in Carmarthenshire, Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire.
Two integrated care centres (Aberaeron and Cardigan, Ceredigion).
Community facilities, including:
48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes.
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Main duties of the job
- Independently manage and lead specialist cardiac rhythm management (CRM) clinics, including follow-up and programming of pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices (both in-person and remote monitoring).
- Provide expert interpretation of device diagnostics and clinical data and take appropriate action in line with clinical protocols or in liaison with cardiology consultants.
- Support the implantation of cardiac devices, including intraoperative testing, programming, and documentation.
- Act as a clinical lead within the CRM service, supporting service development and the implementation of new technologies and best practices.
- Provide training, mentorship, and supervision to junior staff, students, and trainees to ensure continued professional development and safe practice.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, attending relevant meetings and contributing to case discussions, audit, and service evaluation.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all clinical activities, maintaining high standards of record-keeping and compliance with Health Board policies and national standards.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, audits, and governance activities to maintain and improve service standards.
- Assist in managing workloads and service delivery planning, including prioritisation of urgent cases and coordinating clinic schedules.
