NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. Associate Clinical Scientist Molecular Pathology

Band 6: 37 hours per week

£39,912 to £48,635 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Associate Clinical Scientist in the Molecular Pathology service in NHS Lothian. (based at the Western General Hospital and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh). The laboratory is part of the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine funded by National Services Division to provide Genetic and Molecular Pathology diagnostic testing in Scotland. Applications are invited from scientists with good interpersonal skills with a background in molecular pathology / cancer genomics, with a strong interest in developing diagnostic services and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

The successful applicant will be involved in the delivery of the specialist molecular testing including data analysis. Within this role the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of gene panel-based tests using next generation sequencing in accordance with the requirements of the department.

All applicants should have experience working in a laboratory and have clinical and scientific knowledge in the diagnosis and monitoring of solid tumors and haematological malignancies. Knowledge of a range of molecular methodologies and experience in the use of specialist analytical software, combined with interpretation of a range of scientific data including next generation sequencing is preferable.

There will be opportunity to complete a training programme towards HCPC-registration.
