The Strategic Account Manager is a senior role within the UK Regional business, responsible for owning and developing relationships with a defined portfolio of strategic partner brokers in the UK Regional market. Key Tasks And Responsibilities
Strategic account ownership
- Act as the principal owner for allocated strategic partner broker accounts, maintaining a clear view of account performance, opportunity and relationship strength.
- Develop and deploy practical account plans that translate strategy into targeted actions, relationship activity, retention priorities and new business opportunities.
- Use diligence, discipline, creativity and follow-through to ensure agreed account actions are progressed to completion.
- Drive growth in allocated strategic partner accounts by identifying volume opportunities and pursuing them with pace, tenacity and commercial judgement.
- Support prospecting activity and encourage a consistent pipeline of opportunities, contributing to strong quote activity and conversion outcomes.
- Support the retention agenda, including specific engagement on larger or strategically important cases where required.
- Build strength and breadth of broker relationships through effective relationship mapping, planned contact cadences and appropriate social activity.
- Maintain a visible, credible and respected profile with strategic partners, representing Arch effectively across brand, culture, key messages, marketing output and underwriting appetite.
- Deliver assertive, polished and constructive presentation and communication in the market, balancing agility and pace with professionalism.
- Collaborate effectively with the Arch International Strategy & Distribution team, including alignment with London Market distribution activity where relevant.
- Work closely with the branch network and key branch stakeholders to ensure account strategy and distribution activity are harmonised.
- Negotiate remuneration arrangements effectively and ensure broker activity supports balanced, constructive and commercially credible market relationships.
Skills / Competencies
- Proven ability to build, nurture and manage high-level broker relationships that support delivery of business objectives, growth and retention.
- Confident serving as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, underwriting, claims and insurer placement teams.
- Able to map relationships, plan engagement cadences and ensure timely follow-up on broker enquiries, reviews and agreed actions.
- Strong organisational capability, attention to detail and disciplined follow-through, with the ability to balance activity across multiple strategic accounts.
- Able to work with agility and flexibility while still following core process disciplines and established ways of working.
- Assertive and polished verbal and written communicator, able to cascade key messages clearly and represent Arch with credibility.
- Effective negotiation skills, including the ability to negotiate remuneration arrangements and manage constructive commercial conversations.
- Strong presentation capability, combining pace, clarity, professionalism and sound judgement.
- Comfortable working across sales, development, underwriting, claims, marketing, branch and central Strategy & Distribution colleagues to deliver cohesive broker management.
- Strong understanding of market dynamics and ability to provide useful feedback on broker sentiment, competitor activity and emerging opportunities.
- Acts as a senior stakeholder and positive role model, supporting regional management and contributing to a consistent, professional market presence.
- Strong analytical capability, able to interpret broker, market and performance data to identify trends, opportunities and areas requiring action.
- Strong appetite for professional development, embracing opportunities to improve skills, judgement and market effectiveness.
- Proven track record in account management, ideally within a commercial insurance or broker-facing environment.
- Minimum of 10 years’ insurance industry experience, with evidence of managing complex stakeholder relationships and commercial opportunities.
- Experienced in developing tailored account strategies informed by market insight, broker performance, trends and practical commercial opportunity.
