Job Description

We are seeking a highly organised and safety-focused Permit to Work (PTW) Coordinator to take ownership of high-risk work control processes on site. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring all hazardous activities are carried out safely, compliantly, and in line with approved procedures.

Acting as the central gatekeeper, the PTW Coordinator will oversee the issuing, verification, and monitoring of permits. The role ensures that Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) accurately reflect the tasks being undertaken and that robust control measures are in place before any work begins.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control and oversee all Permit to Work (PTW) activities across site
  • Issue, verify, and monitor permits for high-risk work
  • Review and validate Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for accuracy and suitability
  • Ensure compliance with UK health & safety legislation and site standards
  • Maintain strict oversight of ongoing operations as the central PTW authority
  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure adherence to procedures
  • Maintain accurate records, registers, and audit trails
  • Coordinate closely with contractors, supervisors, and operational teams
  • Challenge unsafe behaviours and practices, ensuring compliance at all times
  • Support continuous improvement in safety standards and work controls

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience working within a Permit to Work (PTW) system in heavy industrial environments (e.g. steel, manufacturing, construction, or energy)
  • Strong understanding of high-risk activities, including:
    • Hot works
    • Confined spaces
    • Lifting operations
    • Isolations
    • Working at height
  • Sound knowledge of UK health & safety legislation, including:
    • Health and Safety at Work Act
    • CDM Regulations
  • Experience reviewing and approving RAMS documentation
  • Relevant health & safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent)
  • PTW training or certification (site-specific or industry-recognised)
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify risks or inconsistencies
  • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills
  • Confident in challenging unsafe practices and enforcing procedures
  • Highly organised with experience managing documentation and compliance records
In return, we can offer an attractive base salary, 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, a 5% employer pension contribution and Medicash.
