Job Advert

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint a Nature Conservation Intern.

Are you passionate about wildlife and looking to start a career in nature conservation? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking intern to join our team and gain real, practical experience across a wide range of conservation work. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills, work alongside experienced staff and make a genuine difference for nature.

You’ll spend time outdoors in all weathers, helping with practical habitat management and conservation tasks, as well as supporting office-based project work. No two days are the same — one day you could be coppicing woodland or surveying wildlife, the next helping with data entry, communications or project administration.

We’re looking for someone who has a genuine interest in nature conservation and the environment, who enjoys practical outdoor work and isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty. You will be willing to learn new skills and take on a variety of tasks, bringing enthusiasm, reliability and motivation to everything you do. You will enjoy working with others as part of a team, while also being capable of working independently when required. A positive attitude, personable nature and strong communication skills are essential for this role.

In return, you’ll gain valuable experience, training and insight into the conservation sector while working with a supportive and friendly team. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and help protect nature, we’d love to hear from you.

How to apply:

Please complete the application form answering five key questions:

  • What interested you in applying for this internship and what do you hope to get out of it?
  • Describe a project or piece of work (school/college, volunteering or work) that you’re proud of. What was your role and what would you do differently next time?
  • We all have to deal with problems and challenges in life. When you have been faced by a problem or challenge, how have you overcome it?
  • What interests you about nature and what sparked that interest?
  • What would a friend or colleague say is your strongest quality?

There is no need to submit your CV.

Please DO NOT include any personal details (name, address etc) in your responses.

Closing date: 2 August 2026 at midnight

Interview date: 20 August 2026

Please note that applications received after the closing deadline may not be considered. The Trust regrets that it is unable to give feedback on unsuccessful applications.

We want our people to flourish, just like nature, and so we are committed to creating a movement that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities. We value diversity and creating an inclusive culture where everyone can be themselves and reach their full potential.

We are also a member of the Disability Confident Scheme. This means we are committed to offering an interview to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the post. Where a post is oversubscribed (i.e. there are more candidates meeting the minimum criteria than we can offer interviews to), we will carefully balance inviting a mix of the highest scoring disabled and non-disabled applicants.
