As the Miner, your responsibilities may include:

  • To ensure the safety of yourself and those around you.

  • Ensure that you understand and sign up in every RAM and SOS Briefing you are working to.

  • Ensure you hold the correct qualification for the role you are providing.

  • Report any near miss, incident or accident to JGL Supervisor.

  • Ensure work area is neat and tidy at all times. If necessary, stop working and carry out general housekeeping in the area for a few minutes.

  • Carry out and enforce H&S policy to create a safe workplace.

  • Use your phone in designated areas only and in a safe way.

  • Make sure that you and the rest of your team wear protective clothing and PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety boots, etc.

  • Ensure all COSHH materials are used, stored and disposed of correctly.

  • Never operate plant or equipment that you are neither authorized nor trained to use.

  • Respect the exclusion zones at all times making sure that you do not work in a dangerous area and keeping tools and plant in a safe place.

  • Report any damaged or worn plant to lead miner.

  • Ensure all plant and tools are cleaned at the end of the shift if not in further use.

  • Try to eliminate manual handling so far as is reasonably practicably (use mechanical handling). Where manual handling must be carried out, ensure that it is in accordance with the right procedures.

  • Only stack materials in designated areas ensuring that escape routes, doorways, etc., are not obstructed.

  • Ensure lifting operations are carried out by approved persons.

  • Ensure all permits are in place before commencing work.
