What You’ll Be Doing
As our Medication Safety Specialist, you’ll be the organisation’s expert lead for medication and medical device safety. In this role, you will:
- Lead and improve medication incident reporting, learning, and action planning.
- Investigate medication safety incidents using tools such as SEIPS (Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety) and AAR (after-action-reviews) to translate findings into effective improvements.
- Represent the organisation at medication safety committees and drive actions that improve patient safety.
- Work closely with managers, pharmacists, and nursing colleagues to ensure key learning is embedded and shared across the organisation.
- Produce monthly and quarterly governance reports that support safe practice.
- Engage with local and national medication safety networks, including other NHS Trusts and academic partners.
- Develop safety training materials, SOPs, and contribute to wider policy development.
You will be a confident, experienced pharmacist with:
- Significant experience in community or hospital pharmacy.
- Strong experience in clinical governance and medication safety.
- The ability to influence key stakeholders and support change management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical capability with resilience under pressure.
- A collaborative, energetic, and proactive approach.
- Experience with Patient Safety Incident Response Framework, NRLS, Yellow Card reporting and Duty of Candour.
- MPharm or equivalent undergraduate Pharmacy degree or Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
- GPhC registration with up to date CPD
- A strategic, high‑impact role influencing safety culture across the organisation
