Oaklands College is a vibrant, inclusive and progressive Further Education College, with a commitment to student success provided through the best possible learning environment and student experience. This role will involve teaching UAL Creative Media and Technologies Level 2 and Level 3.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic Lecturer To deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Media programmes within the Creative Industries curriculum area. You will be part of a successful, supportive team with a good record of achievement where you have the opportunity to make a real difference to the future of our students, enabling them to progress on to higher education or employment. The post holder will inspire and motivate learners to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required for progression to higher education, apprenticeships and employment within the media and creative sectors. The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum planning, learner achievement, industry engagement and the continuous improvement of teaching and learning, ensuring an outstanding student experience.


KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and inclusive lessons across a range of Media programmes.

  • Teach practical and theoretical aspects of media production, including areas such as:

    • Digital media production

    • Film and video production

    • Audio production and podcasting

    • Advertising and marketing communications

    • Social media content creation

    • Media theory and analysis

  • Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of diverse learners.

  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes learner engagement and achievement.

  • Monitor learner progress and implement appropriate interventions to support achievement and retention.

  • Develop learners' English, maths, digital and employability skills within the curriculum.

  • Maintain high standards of classroom management and learner behaviour.

Assessment and Quality

  • Design and deliver effective assessment activities in line with awarding organisation requirements.

  • Assess learner work accurately and provide timely, constructive feedback.

  • Monitor learner progress against targets and maintain accurate records.

  • Participate in internal verification, standardisation and quality assurance processes.

  • Contribute to achievement, retention and progression targets.

  • Support preparations for inspections, audits and awarding body visits.

Curriculum Development

  • Contribute to the planning, development and review of Media programmes.

  • Ensure curriculum content remains current and reflects developments within the media and creative industries.

  • Develop innovative learning materials and resources.

  • Support the integration of emerging technologies and industry-standard software into teaching practice.

Student Support

  • Act as a personal tutor, providing academic and pastoral support to learners.

  • Monitor attendance and punctuality, taking appropriate action where concerns arise.

  • Support learners with additional learning needs, safeguarding concerns and wellbeing issues through appropriate referral processes.

  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of college life.

Industry Engagement

  • Develop and maintain links with employers, universities and creative industry partners.

  • Organise or support industry projects, visits, guest speakers and work experience opportunities.

  • Ensure learners develop an understanding of current industry practices and professional expectations.

College Responsibilities

  • Participate in team meetings, training and professional development activities.

  • Contribute to college marketing and recruitment events, including open days and interview evenings.

  • Comply with all college policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, data protection and equality legislation.

  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Media, Film, Digital Media, Creative Media Production or a related subject.

  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent), or willingness to work towards one.

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.

PERSON SPECIFICATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Experience

  • Experience of teaching or training within Media, Creative Industries or a related field.

  • Experience of delivering practical media production projects.

  • Experience of assessment and learner tracking.

  • Knowledge of current media industry practices and technologies.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong subject knowledge across media production and media theory.

  • Proficiency in relevant industry-standard software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects and Audition).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.

  • Ability to motivate and inspire learners from diverse backgrounds.
