Independence, Risk and Compliance Manager

PwC UK

Date: 14 hours ago
City: Belfast
Contract type: Full time
The Independence, Conflicts and Ethics team is a key part of One Firm Risk Management, helping to ensure PwC meets its regulatory, ethical, and operational responsibilities. Independence is more than a policy requirement. It underpins objectivity, maintains public trust, and supports the delivery of services to the highest professional standards. The team provides policy guidance and operational support while monitoring compliance with internal policies and external regulations relating to independence, business conduct, and ethics. We are looking for a capable and pragmatic Manager to advise Partners and staff on a wide range of complex independence, conflicts, and ethics matters. You will interpret regulations, apply them to real business situations, and contribute to the delivery of strategic projects and initiatives. Working within a geographically dispersed team, including offshore support centres, you will collaborate regularly with colleagues across locations, supported by quarterly team meetings in London. The team offers a collaborative and supportive environment that values professionalism, teamwork, and continuous development. As a trusted advisor, you will play an important role in protecting the firm's reputation and regulatory standing by delivering practical, solutions-focused guidance. You will also support and develop colleagues, helping to resolve challenging issues while building valuable risk management and stakeholder engagement skills. Comprehensive training and ongoing development opportunities will be provided to support your success.

What Your Days Will Look Like

  • Offering advice and guidance on risk, compliance, and independence queries, interpreting both firm policies and external regulations within the relevant context.
  • Manage and coach junior team members, assisting them in developing both technical capabilities and soft skills.
  • Oversee and enhance key compliance and independence processes to ensure their ongoing operational effectiveness.
  • Support the business during audit tenders, client onboarding, and non-audit service assessments, making sure all relevant rules are adhered to.
  • Lead or contribute to ad hoc projects, which may include regulatory reporting, investigations into breaches, and improvements to processes.
  • Engage with stakeholders at every level, including partners, engagement teams, and contacts across the global network.
  • Monitor adherence to policies and procedures, reporting on compliance, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Develop and standardise processes and controls and help implement new regulatory requirements.
  • Foster a culture of ethical behaviour and continuous improvement throughout the team and the wider business.

This Role Is For You If

  • You are analytical, organised, and have proven project management skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to convey complex information clearly and confidently.
  • You have a proven ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • You have relevant experience in risk management, compliance, or a related discipline; experience in independence, conflicts, or ethics is advantageous but not essential.
  • You have an eagerness to learn new technical areas and adapt to changes in regulation.
  • You are proficient coaching and people management skills.
  • You have a commercial awareness and an empathetic approach to client-facing colleagues.
  • You have a capacity to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and deliver challenging messages when necessary.
  • You are a conscientious and ambitious team player, demonstrating initiative and strong self-management skills.
