Help shape the future of local Scouting as a Trustee. You’ll support decision-making, governance, and sustainability—ensuring young people can enjoy safe, high-quality experiences and develop skills for life.

What difference will you make?

This role plays a vital part in ensuring the Scout Group is well-run, sustainable, and able to deliver high-quality Scouting for young people.

By contributing to key decisions and providing oversight, Trustees help ensure the Group has the resources, leadership, and structure needed to thrive. This enables volunteers to focus on delivering engaging programmes that help young people develop skills for life, build confidence, and enjoy new experiences.

Trustees also help ensure the Group operates safely and in line with charity and Scouting requirements, supporting good governance and long-term stability.

Ultimately, your contribution will help shape the future of the Group, ensuring it can continue to grow and make a positive impact in the local community for years to come.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, collaborative, and keen to make a positive difference.

You should be comfortable contributing to discussions, offering ideas, and supporting decision-making as part of a team. Good judgement, integrity, and a willingness to take responsibility are essential, along with the ability to consider different perspectives and act in the best interests of the Group.

We welcome a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Skills in areas such as finance, governance, HR, safeguarding, fundraising, or strategy would be valuable.

Previous experience as a trustee or in a committee role is helpful but not required—full support and training will be provided.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone committed to supporting young people and upholding the values of Scouting.

What will you be doing?

Our Trustee Board is made up of a small team of dedicated volunteers who support the governance and direction of the Scout Group. We are looking to strengthen the Board with an additional Trustee who can bring fresh perspective and help support the Group’s future development.

Key priorities for the Board include maintaining financial sustainability, supporting volunteer recruitment and retention, and ensuring the Group continues to grow and offer high-quality Scouting to young people.

As a Trustee, you’ll attend regular meetings, contribute to discussions, and support decision-making on key areas such as planning, resources, and risk. You may also have the opportunity to support specific projects or areas of focus depending on your interests, such as fundraising, facilities, or development.

This is a great opportunity to play an important role behind the scenes, helping shape the future of the Group and ensuring it can continue to provide valuable opportunities for young people in the local community.
