Global HVDC Control & Protection System Application Leader

Job Description Summary

We are looking for an experienced technical leader to define and drive the global strategy for HVDC Control & Protection systems across projects, tenders, and new product introduction activities.

This is a high-impact leadership role with global scope. You will shape the technical direction for Control & Protection, establish reference solutions and engineering standards, and provide leadership across a complex international engineering organisation. The role is ideal for someone who combines deep HVDC Control & Protection expertise with strong leadership, stakeholder management, and a passion for engineering excellence, standardisation, and continuous improvement.

Job Description

Key responsibilities

• Define and lead the global strategy for HVDC Control & Protection systems
• Establish and maintain reference solutions, engineering standards, tools, and governance frameworks
• Provide technical leadership across tenders, projects, and NPI activities
• Ensure solutions meet customer requirements while supporting Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost objectives
• Drive standardisation, consistency, and continuous improvement across teams, regions, and projects
• Oversee Control & Protection system design, deployment, configuration, integration, and validation
• Support execution planning, engineering estimates, technical risk identification, and mitigation strategies for new opportunities
• Guide modelling and simulation activities using tools such as PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, PSSE, and RSCAD
• Review and approve key design deliverables to ensure quality, timeliness, and cost effectiveness
• Lead and develop a global community of Control & Protection engineers and specialists
• Act as a key technical interface with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders
  
  

What We’re Looking For

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, ideally with specialisation in power systems or power electronics
• Significant experience in HVDC Control & Protection system design and engineering
• Proven technical leadership experience, with the ability to define and drive global strategy for HVDC Control & Protection systems across projects, tenders, and engineering teams
• Strong understanding of HVDC control, protection, sequencing strategies, and system integration
• Experience with EMT and RMS simulation tools such as PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, PSSE, RSCAD, or similar
• Proven technical leadership in complex engineering, infrastructure, or energy environments
• Experience leading cross-functional and global teams
• Strong technical judgement, problem-solving ability, and confidence in managing technical risk and decision-making
• Ability to engage credibly with customers, partners, and senior internal stakeholders
