British Red Cross Volunteer

Date: 2 weeks ago
City: Torquay
Contract type: Full time
The British Red Cross arrange and support many events across the country and virtually which require the help of volunteers. Could you help play an important role in making people feel valued when supporting the British Red Cross? **We would like you to volunteer for a one-day event on Sunday 13th September 2026 from 10am to 7pm.** You will be asked to assist with setting up tables and decorations, serving hot drinks and cakes, taking donations and then packing down at the end of the event. We look forward to meeting you! **Please note that selected events will be available to over 18's only.** Diversity is something we celebrate. We want you to be able to bring your authentic self to the Red Cross and feel that you belong. We want to create an inclusive environment, and promote and spread the power of kindness. As part of creating an inclusive space we have an expenses policy that prioritises volunteers not being out of pocket for expenses linked to your role. If up front costs are difficult, you can speak to your volunteering manager about this to find alternatives. We welcome refugees, asylum seekers and others currently in the UK to volunteer with us. We want volunteering to be accessible to everyone. **Health and Safety Statement** We take an individual approach to ensuring your safety. We may ask you to complete a simple risk assessment and will also have a conversation with you to discuss and identify any adjustments you may need. *As we take great care to ensure that all our volunteers are safe and supported, there may be some locations where we won’t be able to host 16-17 year olds. Please get in touch so that we can help you find a suitable volunteering opportunity.*
Why we want you: Across the UK we host lots of different events which requires the help of our volunteers. There are lots of ways to get involved, from selling raffle tickets at a Christmas market, signing in hikers on their way up Snowdon, or cheering on amazing runners at the London Marathon. By joining events which suit you, you can give Red Cross supporters a special experience.
  • Tasks: Exact activities will vary according to the type of event you are supporting, but can include:

Supporting event participants - cheering and encouraging people on route or welcoming them at post-race events

    Providing refreshments

    Selling raffle tickets

    Signing people into their events

Active promotion of the British Red Cross and what we do

  • Skills: Enthusiasm and energy!

Desire to give our supporters a unique and fun experience

    An interest in the event

  • Benefits: Gain experience and confidence in interacting with the public

Be involved in a fantastic event!

Be the power of kindness in your community
