Full Stack Developer

About Outserve

Outserve is a specialist in e-commerce accounting, inventory management, and business automation. We help product businesses scale with confidence, connecting systems, automating workflows, and building the custom integrations that make our clients' operations run smarter. We're a small, close-knit team where your work genuinely matters, and your fingerprints stay on things.

Salary and Benefits

  • £45,000–£55,000
  • Monthly wellbeing bonus
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • 2× Death in Service
  • 24 days holiday + bank holidays, with a buy/sell scheme
  • Auto-enrolment pension scheme
  • Free onsite refreshments and snacks
  • Latest tech and tooling provided

About the role

We're looking for a pragmatic, delivery-focused Full Stack Developer with a strong backend bias to join our growing team.

While the role is full stack in nature, the majority of your time will be spent on backend development, including system architecture, APIs, data pipelines, and cloud-based services. You'll also work across the frontend where needed, ensuring end-to-end solutions are robust, scalable, and maintainable.

This role suits someone who recognises that true "full stack" today tends to lean one way, and for us, that's firmly towards the backend, without losing sight of the full application experience. You'll work closely with another developer and directly with clients, translating requirements into well-designed technical solutions while balancing delivery, quality, and scalability.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining backend services, APIs, and databases that underpin our applications
  • Writing clean, secure, and well-tested code across the stack, with a primary focus on server-side logic
  • Building and maintaining integrations between e-commerce platforms, accounting software, and inventory systems (e.g. connecting Xero, Unleashed, Amazon, and similar)
  • Working with cloud services (AWS and/or Azure) to deploy, monitor, and maintain applications
  • Supporting frontend development to ensure smooth integration between UI and backend systems
  • Managing the full software development lifecycle, from requirements through to release and ongoing support
  • Troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving live production systems
  • Applying security best practices and contributing to vulnerability assessments
  • Actively using AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar) as a core part of your workflow, not as a shortcut, but as a force multiplier for quality, speed, and problem-solving
  • Working in an agile environment, contributing to sprints, stand-ups, and incremental delivery
  • Engaging directly with clients to understand requirements and explain technical options in a clear, practical way

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • Strong commercial experience in backend development, NodeJs and TypeScript preferred
  • Solid experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and data integrations
  • Experience working with relational and/or non-relational databases
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Confident using Git and working within structured development processes
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable taking ownership of your work and operating independently within a small team
  • Good communicator, able to engage with non-technical clients clearly and confidently
  • Demonstrated comfort working alongside AI development tools, with the judgement to use them effectively, knowing when to lean on them, when to challenge their output, and how to get the best from them without losing ownership of the code

Desirable

  • Frontend experience with JavaScript frameworks such as React or similar
  • Familiarity with e-commerce ecosystems, accounting platforms (e.g. Xero), or inventory/ERP systems
  • Experience working in small, collaborative teams where flexibility is essential
  • Exposure to security-focused development or regulated environments
  • Experience supporting and improving live production systems

How You'll Operate

Delivery & Ownership

  • Plan and prioritise your own workload to meet project and operational deadlines
  • Take responsibility for your deliverables end-to-end, escalating risks or delays early
  • Ensure your work meets quality, security, and compliance standards

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the project team to align technical delivery with client milestones
  • Communicate clearly and proactively, with colleagues and clients alike
  • Contribute to a team culture where knowledge is shared openly

Growth

  • Pursue continuous learning and bring new ideas and improvements to the table
  • Support adoption of new tools and systems with clear guidance and documentation where needed
  • Apply feedback constructively to raise the bar on your own output

Culture & Values

  • Contribute positively to Outserve's team culture and wider initiatives
  • Follow company policies and promote structured, compliant working practices

Interested?

If you're a developer who's happiest when you're close to the data, enjoy untangling integrations, and want to work somewhere your contributions are visible, we'd love to hear from you.
