The Role

We are seeking an experienced Fine Jewellery Quality Controller to join our busy Birmingham Operations Department, with a yearly salary of up to £29,000, depending on experience. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years’ experience in positions of assessing jewellery pieces and monitoring production control in a jewellery workshop.

The Quality and Production Controller plays a critical role in safeguarding the highest standards of craftsmanship across all jewellery pieces produced and repaired within our workshop.

They will ensure every item meets both technical specifications and luxury finish expectations before reaching the customer. Jewellery repairs and bespoke items will be inspected against order design briefs and customer requirements, ensuring accuracy at every stage. Working closely with mounters, setters, polishers, and the wider production team, this position will aid maintaining a smooth workflow, monitoring progress to ensure deadlines are achieved without compromising on quality.

The Quality and production Controller will be responsible for identifying and resolving any production or quality issues, providing clear and constructive feedback where rework is required. Maintaining strict quality control procedures, they will approve or reject items based on defined standards, ensuring all pieces comply with hallmarking regulations and internal specifications. In addition, they will keep accurate records of inspections and production outcomes on the internal system, while actively tracking the status of orders across the workshop to ensure full visibility of progress. By liaising with different departments and updating job statuses in real time, they will help identify potential delays, support workflow coordination, and contribute to continuous improvement across the workshop.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities as an Fine Jewellery Quality Controller for the Operational Department at Neve Jewels will include, but not be limited to:

  • Conduct thorough, end-to-end quality inspections of finished jewellery and repairs, ensuring all items meet defined brand and manufacturing standards.
  • Assess craftsmanship across all elements, including metalwork, stone setting, alignment, finishing, polishing, and overall presentation.
  • Verify that diamonds and gemstones are securely set, correctly aligned, free from damage, and consistent with certification and design specifications.
  • Identify and clearly document any defects, inconsistencies, or substandard workmanship, including issues in repairs or resizing.
  • Make informed, balanced decisions on whether items meet acceptable quality standards, demonstrating both critical judgment and fairness.
  • Ensure all pieces comply with internal tolerances, structural integrity requirements, and luxury aesthetic expectations.
  • Work closely with the workshop team to provide constructive feedback and support continuous improvement in craftsmanship.
  • Maintain accurate records of quality control outcomes and escalate issues where required.
  • Consistently meet daily inspection targets while maintaining uncompromising attention to detail.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Jewellery Assessment, Jewellery Workshop, Jewellery Manufacturing, or similar.
  • Strong technical knowledge of fine jewellery, including precious metals, gemstone settings, and manufacturing tolerances.
  • A highly trained eye for detail, with the ability to spot even minor imperfections.
  • Solid understanding of jewellery repair processes and expected high-quality outcomes.
  • Experience working within structured quality control procedures and standards.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative approach, working effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using Apple iMac computers.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including data entry, formula creation, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Strong ability to manage and interpret large datasets for reporting and tracking purposes.
