Trinity Fire & Security Systems

Date: 2 hours ago
City: Abingdon
Contract type: Full time
Location: Abingdon (OX14 1RL)

At Trinity Fire & Security, we’re more than just experts in safety and security — we’re a supportive team with a shared purpose: protecting what matters most to our customers.

We’re looking for a Financial Controller who will act as the senior finance lead for Trinity, combining strong financial control with proactive commercial insight and business partnering. In this role you will support operational and strategic decision-making across installation projects, service contracts, and maintenance activities, while ensuring robust reporting, governance, and scalable finance processes.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a commercially minded finance professional who can both run an effective control function and influence performance across the wider business.

This role is a full time permanent role, based from our Abingdon office but will involve weekly travel to visit team members in Exeter.

What you will be doing:

Commercial Performance & Business Partnering

  • Partner with the Managing Director and operational leaders to improve financial performance, profitability, and cash generation
  • Provide forward-looking insight through budgeting, forecasting, and KPI analysis
  • Support pricing, tendering, and contract decisions with robust financial analysis and challenge
  • Drive visibility of project margins, job costing, and contract performance to enable timely interventions
  • Identify and deliver margin improvement, cost efficiency, and working capital opportunities
  • Translate financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders

Financial Control & Reporting

  • Oversee both shared service and directly managed resources including general ledger, billing, month-end processes, accounts payable and credit control activities
  • Ensure accurate accounting for project and contract-based revenue, including WIP, accrued income, and revenue recognition
  • Prepare, review, reconcile and sign off monthly management accounts and financial packs including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, KPIs, and variance analysis
  • Manage cash flow, credit control, and supplier payments
  • Lead the year-end audit process and act as primary contact for auditors, accountants, and tax advisors

Systems, Process & Transformation

  • Support the transition and integration of finance systems and reporting tools
  • Lead improvements to processes, controls, and data quality to enable scalability and efficiency

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative and service-oriented culture

What we're looking for:

  • Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role
  • Strong understanding of project accounting, WIP, contract revenue recognition, and cash flow management
  • Demonstrable experience driving commercial performance, not just financial reporting
  • Experience improving systems, processes, or supporting finance transformation initiatives
  • Strong Excel and ERP/accounting system experience
  • Ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders constructively
  • Confident communicator with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly
  • An analytical and insight-driven leader, with a focus on outcomes
  • Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • High integrity and ownership mindset
  • Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Experience partnering with operational or project-based businesses such as construction, engineering, facilities management, or fire & security services is highly desirable

What we can offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • Car allowance
  • 23 days annual leave (increasing with service), plus bank holidays
  • Salary Sacrifice Pension scheme
  • 3 x Salary Life Assurance
  • Access to our employee discount programme – savings at over 800 national retailers
  • Employee assistance and wellbeing programme
