The British Red Cross is on a mission to transform its approach to data, centralising our data assets and enabling insight-led approaches to our work to provide humanitarian assistance and community support across the UK.

This is a senior role in the British Red Cross’s centralised data team with a remit to advance the use of the latest technologies, enable the responsible use of AI and facilitate platform adoption across a broad range of teams and functions within the organisation. We use Azure-based technology centred on Databricks, deploying code at pace and taking a pragmatic, impact-led approach to migrations and change.

Taking a use-case, product-led approach, you will be responsible for developing data architecture, establishing strategies, governance and principles and ensuring new systems and data products are fit for purpose.

At the heart of this role is a deep commitment to humanity. If you are motivated by purpose and using the power of data and technology to make a tangible difference in people’s lives when they need it most, this is your opportunity to help transform the Red Cross’s mission in the UK.

What will a day in the life of an Enterprise Data Architect involve?

  • Providing technical input to senior data leaders and stakeholders, reviewing existing platforms and advising on improvements, migrations and best practice
  • Working with engineers and analysts across the organisation to integrate new datasets and deliver data products spanning emergency response, retail, fundraising, finance and healthcare.
  • Supporting spoke teams to understand their needs, adopt shared platforms and integrate local solutions with the wider data architecture.
  • Designing the structural framework for how data is organised, stored, integrated, and used in data products.
  • Establishing practical standards for data models, integration patterns and data products that support consistent delivery.

To be a successful Enterprise Data Architect, what will you need?

  • A demonstrated ability to build consensus and drive adoption of shared platforms, standards and ways of working. You will have a strong ability to influence stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Excellent ability to communicate data and technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with modern cloud-based data platforms such as Databricks or Microsoft Fabric, including data modelling, governance and platform design.
  • Knowledge of data visualisation tools including PowerBI and/or Tableau.
  • Proven experience of introducing large-scale data solutions while balancing long-term architecture goals with pragmatic delivery needs.
