Data Analyst, Central Insights

We are seeking a Data Analyst to join the ITV Insight Group’s Central Insights team.

Central Insights plays a crucial role in shaping ITV’s understanding of the UK television market, evolving viewer behaviours and future opportunities in an exciting, highly competitive and increasingly complex media landscape. Our work helps the business understand how viewers engage with ITV’s content across broadcast, VOD and SVOD, and supports key decisions across content, scheduling, marketing, product, strategy and performance planning.

As part of a cross-functional team, you will partner with Insight Managers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Analysts and business stakeholders to understand their challenges and help answer the “big questions”. You will use data to create clear, accurate and actionable insight, helping stakeholders make better decisions and supporting ITV’s wider strategic objectives.

As a Data Analyst, you will be responsible for delivering analytical requirements for your business area, working with the wider team to produce high-quality analysis, dashboards, reports and recommendations. You will be encouraged to sharpen your technical skills, think critically about the questions being asked, and communicate insight in a way that is clear, trusted and impactful.

The team

ITV is on a mission to Supercharge Streaming and Optimise Broadcast with data and insight right at the centre of our digital transformation strategy.

The business faces many challenges ahead to achieve this vision: What content should we commission? Which audiences are the most commercially attractive for us? What should our marketing strategy be? How do we optimise our product to improve view through rates? How do we use VOD (Video on Demand) to offset declines to Linear TV?

Whatever the question, ITV Insights is here to lead the business to its most successful future by putting insight with integrity, ingenuity, and impact, at the heart of every key decision.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysing audience behaviours and providing insight on our viewers to drive business value.
  • Provision of accurate and insightful analysis on how viewers engage with and consume the nation’s best-loved and most-watched content across broadcast, VOD and SVOD.
  • Communicating analytics and insight to business stakeholders in a non-technical, strategically-minded and impactful manner.
  • Creating analysis, dashboards and reports that help stakeholders understand performance against key business KPIs.
  • Supporting proof of concept analysis for new metrics, methodologies, segmentations or analytical approaches.
  • As part of a cross-functional team, developing and embedding dashboarding solutions for business stakeholders, enabling a culture of self-service analytics.
  • Evaluating the performance of content, release strategies, marketing activity and product experiments, and supporting recommendations for future tests and next steps.
  • Working with large and complex datasets to identify trends, opportunities and risks in viewer behaviour and content performance.
  • Supporting forecasting and performance analysis across key business KPIs.
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts in a range of disciplines, including Insight Managers, Data Scientists, Analysts and business stakeholders, to drive projects forward.
  • Helping to embed analytical best practice across the team, including clear documentation, reproducible analysis and high-quality standards in analytical delivery.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Proven experience (or similar exposure) within a data analytics role, with the ability to turn complex data into meaningful insights
  • Ability to create insightful analysis and dashboards.
  • Comfortable visualising and presenting analysis across a range of formats, including reports, PowerPoint, dashboards and email.
  • Experience using SQL to analyse large datasets.
  • Understanding of analytical techniques and statistical concepts.
  • Experience using Python for analytics, data transformation or modelling.
  • Strong attention to detail and a drive to produce accurate, trusted and well-documented analysis.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to tell clear and impactful stories with data.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with analysts, insight specialists and business stakeholders.
  • A curious and critical mindset, with the ability to question assumptions and understand the limitations of analysis.

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)

  • A passion for TV programmes and an interest in the wider media landscape.
  • Experience working with cloud-based platforms such as GCP, BigQuery, AWS, Redshift or Databricks.
  • Experience working with data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Looker Studio.
  • Experience of working with first and third party data, ideally in a TV, media, streaming, product, marketing or customer analytics environment.
  • Experience using Jupyter notebooks is preferable.
  • Experience of forecasting or predictive modelling in a business analytics context is preferable.
  • Keen problem solver who can demonstrate critical thinking, coupled with strong communication skills.
  • Interest in improving insight capability through automation, self-serve analytics, documentation or new ways of working.
