Your role at BRE

Joining the Health and Wellbeing team, you'll support the development and ongoing operation of the BREEAM product portfolio, with a particular focus on indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and indoor air quality.

Working closely with the Health and Wellbeing Science Lead, you'll contribute technical expertise, research and evidence-based guidance that helps ensure BREEAM remains robust, relevant and aligned with industry best practice. You'll collaborate with colleagues across BRE, engage with external stakeholders and support customers through the delivery of high-quality technical services.

This role offers the opportunity to influence industry-leading sustainability standards while developing your expertise across a broad range of healthy building topics, including air quality, ventilation, material emissions, monitoring and testing, thermal comfort and acoustics.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of BREEAM technical standards, manuals and guidance.

  • Provide technical expertise on indoor air quality and wider indoor environmental quality topics.

  • Conduct research and review scientific evidence to inform technical decisions and future developments.

  • Respond to technical queries from customers and stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.

  • Contribute to the development of digital tools and online platform improvements.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, industry groups and professional bodies to support innovation and best practice.

  • Help ensure technical content remains accurate, evidence-based and aligned with relevant regulations and standards.

  • Support work relating to thermal comfort, acoustics and wider health and wellbeing topics where required.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a strong technical background in healthy buildings, indoor environmental quality or a related discipline, who enjoys solving complex problems and translating technical information into practical solutions.

You'll ideally have:

  • Knowledge of indoor air quality, ventilation, material emissions and related building performance topics.

  • Understanding of relevant EN and ISO standards, regulations and testing methodologies.

  • Experience within the construction, building performance, sustainability or built environment sectors.

  • Strong research, analysis and technical report writing skills.

  • The ability to interpret evidence and make well-reasoned, scientifically robust recommendations.

  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • A proactive and solution-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities and deliver work to agreed deadlines.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly beneficial:

  • Indoor air quality testing and monitoring.

  • Dynamic computational modelling.

  • Construction product certification.

  • Sustainable building design or consultancy.

  • Thermal comfort or acoustics.
