Job description

Ref: REQ002017

Competitive salary & excellent benefits. Part Time/Term Time (1 day a week / 36 weeks)

We are looking to appoint a dedicated College Counsellor to maintain and develop our counselling and welfare provision, supporting the wellbeing of all our students.

In conjunction with the college mental health team who support retention and attainment, the successful applicant will provide specialist support and interventions for students experiencing mental health difficulties, including clinical assessment, drop-in service, short-term counselling, signposting and supported referrals to appropriate agencies. The successful applicant will also be the ‘go-to’ person for any tutor enquiries about supporting the mental health of their students.

In addition, you need to be an enthusiastic and motivated individual who can engage with FE students to ensure that they reach their full potential.

This is a superb opportunity for a first-class applicant to work in a highly respected and top-performing college. In turn we can offer you interesting and varied work with an excellent benefits package.

Benefits include: LGPS Pension, 32 days holiday, onsite gym, Employee Assistance Programme including Savings Centre offering retail discounts, Refectory, and free on-site parking.

Farnborough College of Technology is an Equal Opportunities Employer.

Interviews will take place shortly after the published closing date or when a suitable number of appropriate applications have been received, so early submissions are encouraged. Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date, and we reserve the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.

Safeguarding for Employees

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Positions within the College will involve contact with young people and vulnerable adults. Consequently, post-holders will be obliged to demonstrate and maintain their suitability to work with young people and vulnerable adults. This will include a requirement to undertake an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, in addition to referencing and qualification checks.

Disclosure and Barring Service

Farnborough College of Technology complies fully with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Code of Practice regarding the correct handling, storage, retention and disposal of Disclosures and Disclosure information, and undertakes not to discriminate unfairly against any subject of a disclosure on the basis of a conviction or other information revealed.

Candidates who are offered an interview for such posts will be required to disclose details, cautions (including final warnings or reprimands), or convictions which are not "protected" as defined by the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 and 2020), or any other matters that may be relevant to their suitability to work for the College. The College will regard any failure to disclose your criminal record as a breach of trust. It is College Policy that all candidates will be subject to a Disclosure check if offered the post for which the application has been made. Please note that the College is unable to consider an application further if the candidate declines to complete the Disclosure form.
