CNC Machinist
McGlynn Personnel
Are you a skilled CNC Machinist who thrives on taking a complex 3D model and translating it into a flawless, high-precision physical component? If you want to move away from simple button-pushing and instead own the entire manufacturing process from offline programming through to final inspection, McGlynn Personnel Ltd has the perfect permanent opportunity for you. Based fully on-site at a modern, high-tech facility in Dunstable, this full-time role offers you the chance to produce critical components for high-value industries including Aerospace, Motorsport, Medical, and Advanced Engineering. You will work within a supportive, forward-thinking team where your technical expertise is respected, rewarded, and backed by continuous investment in advanced manufacturing technology.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Machining: Take complete ownership of programming, setting, and operating CNC Milling machines or CNC Lathes to manufacture complex, low-volume, high-precision components.
- Offline Programming: Utilise CAD/CAM software offline to generate efficient machining programmes directly from 3D models and engineering drawings, ensuring optimal toolpaths and cycle times.
- Precision Control: Manufacture parts to exceptionally tight tolerances, reading and interpreting engineering drawings to ensure exact alignment with design specifications.
- Quality Assurance & Verification: Perform rigorous in-process quality checks and inspect finished components using manual measuring equipment and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
- Workspace & Collaboration: Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workspace while collaborating with the wider machining and engineering teams to optimise production schedules.
Required Skills & Experience
- Offline CAD/CAM Programming: Crucial expertise in creating CNC programmes offline (not at the machine controller) directly from 3D CAD models.
- CNC Milling or Turning Expertise: Strong, proven background as a CNC Machinist, with deep experience in setting and operating either CNC Milling machines or CNC Lathes.
- Technical Interpretation: Absolute proficiency in reading, interpreting, and working from complex engineering drawings and CAD/CAM data.
- Tolerance & Precision: Solid experience manufacturing components to tight tolerances within high-standard industries like Aerospace, Motorsport, or Medical.
- Right to Work: Candidates must possess full, independent right to work in the United Kingdom; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Desirable Extras
- Precision Inspection & CMM: Experience setting up, operating, or programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) is highly advantageous.
- Multi-Axis Experience: Familiarity with multi-axis machining setups (e.g., 4-axis or 5-axis milling, or live tooling on lathes) to further enhance production flexibility.
- Continuous Improvement: A proactive mindset with a track record of suggesting process improvements to reduce cycle times and minimise material waste.
