Role Overview


We are seeking Clinical Psychologists for full-time and part-time roles within our client’s Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team based in Harrogate. This is an exciting and valuable clinic-based/hybrid position (minimum 1-2 days in office) for suitably qualified clinicians working with children and young people referred for autism and/or ADHD assessments via NHS Patient Choice and GP pathways.


You will join a passionate and supportive multidisciplinary team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people and their families. The role requires conducting comprehensive specialist assessments including diagnostic assessments of individuals with suspected autism and/or ADHD using established diagnostic tools. You will conduct developmental history interviews, participate in MDT diagnostic discussions, and deliver clear, compassionate feedback to families. Responsibilities include producing accurate clinical reports with diagnostic formulations, meeting service KPIs, and depending on experience, providing clinical supervision to junior team members.


Key Responsibilities


  • Conducting face-to-face structured observations as part of the neurodevelopmental assessment process
  • Conducting remote developmental history interviews with parents and carers via Zoom
  • Participating collaboratively in peer MDT diagnostic discussions, supported by senior clinicians where needed
  • Delivering clear, compassionate feedback to families
  • Producing accurate clinical reports, including diagnostic formulations, with the help of smart tools
  • Writing assessment reports in a timely and professional manner with appropriate recommendations and interventions
  • Working efficiently to meet service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Delivering clinical supervision to junior staff members (where applicable)
  • Attending the Harrogate clinic base for in-person assessments (minimum 1-2 days per week)

Essential Requirements


  • HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, or Educational Psychologist) with minimum 1 year professional registration
  • Minimum of 1 year experience conducting diagnostic neurodevelopmental/specialist developmental assessments with children and young people OR adults
  • Experience with assessment tools for autism and/or ADHD
  • Must have worked within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) conducting assessments – NOT worked alone
  • Willing to conduct assessments for BOTH autism AND ADHD
  • Willing to be trained in either area if lacking experience in one
  • In-depth knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for autism and ADHD
  • Strong understanding of differential diagnosis in neurodevelopmental presentations
  • Experience working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders or mental health difficulties in a clinical setting
  • Effective time management and caseload organisation skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and meet clinical deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and participate in collaborative diagnostic discussions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills used to produce high-quality clinical reports
  • Well-developed communication skills with children, young people, and their families, ensuring compassionate, clear, and professional interactions throughout the assessment process
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK

Highly Desirable


  • Trained and experienced in the use of ADOS-2 and ADI-R
  • Clinical supervision experience
  • Additional qualifications in relevant areas of autism and/or ADHD
  • Experience conducting assessments of mental health conditions
