About You

You are a confident and commercially driven business development professional who thrives on creating new opportunities and turning them into long-term customer relationships. You enjoy taking ownership of the entire sales journey, from identifying target organisations and opening conversations with senior decision-makers through to negotiating contracts and securing new business. You are naturally proactive, resilient and relationship-focused. You have an ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of an organisation. You quickly understand complex business challenges, identify where value can be delivered and bring together the right internal expertise to develop compelling commercial solutions.

Ideally you have experience in a business development, sales, account management or commercial role where you have been responsible for generating new revenue and managing complex sales opportunities. Experience engaging with multi-site, multi-entity or enterprise-level customers would be advantageous, but most importantly, you bring the drive, curiosity and determination needed to open doors, build trust and deliver results.

Key Responsibilities

1.   Target Market and Account Planning

  • Define and maintain a prioritised target-account list aligned to UK Connect’s ideal customer profile, sector goals and group-level opportunity criteria.
  • Research prospective customer groups, their operating structure, strategic priorities, current suppliers and likely buying stakeholders.
  • Create account-entry plans that identify routes to senior decision-makers, compelling reasons to engage and the potential value of a group-wide relationship.

2. Prospecting and Opportunity Creation

  • Execute a consistent multi-channel prospecting cadence across priority accounts to generate new conversations and opportunities.
  • Work closely with Sales Development Representatives to align prospecting activity to priority target accounts, provide clear campaign and account direction, and use the SDR resource effectively to secure qualified sales meetings.
  • Build relationships with group executives, procurement leaders, operational sponsors and other stakeholders who influence enterprise-wide decisions.
  • Use referrals, events, partners, campaigns and market insight to create high-quality new-logo opportunities.

3. Qualification and Solution Development

  • Qualify opportunities against agreed criteria, including customer need, strategic fit, authority, budget, timing, competition and commercial viability.
  • Lead discovery across relevant group entities to establish requirements, decision processes and implementation considerations.
  • Coordinate commercial, technical and operational expertise to develop credible proposals and business cases that address the customer’s requirements, demonstrate measurable value and can be delivered within UK Connect’s agreed commercial and operational parameters.
  • Maintain a clear opportunity strategy, stakeholder map, close plan, risks and agreed next actions for every qualified deal.

4. Group-Level Commercial and Contract Leadership

  • Develop relationships with executive sponsors, procurement, operational leaders and technical stakeholders across the prospect group.
  • Create a clear value case that links UK Connect’s proposition to measurable business outcomes.
  • Maintain momentum through purposeful meetings, documented actions and agreed decision milestones.

5. Negotiation, Contract Conversation & Handover

  • Lead commercial negotiations within agreed pricing, margin, risk and contractual guardrails.
  • Coordinate approvals and remove blockers to secure signed contracts.
  • A new-business opportunity remains the responsibility of the Business Development Executive until the contract is signed and a documented handover has been accepted by the Service Delivery and account-ownership teams. The handover must confirm the agreed commercial scope, customer commitments, key stakeholders, delivery dependencies, risks and immediate next actions.

6. Pipeline Management and Forecasting

  • Maintain complete and accurate CRM records, including pipeline stage, value, probability, next step, expected close date and key dependencies.
  • Build sufficient qualified pipeline coverage to support delivery of the new-business target.
  • Provide evidence-based forecasts, flag risk early and agree recovery actions where performance is behind plan.

Experience

  • Proven experience managing the full B2B sales lifecycle, from prospect identification and initial engagement through to contract negotiation, signature and customer handover.
  •  Demonstrable success in generating and converting new business opportunities through proactive, multi-channel prospecting activities.
  • Strong track record of qualifying opportunities, understanding customer requirements and developing compelling commercial proposals, business cases and solutions.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with senior stakeholders, including executive leaders, procurement teams, operational decision-makers and technical contacts.
  • Confidence leading commercial negotiations and progressing opportunities through to successful contract completion.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage pipelines, maintain accurate records and produce reliable sales forecasts.
  • Proven ability to consistently achieve sales targets whilst managing a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities.
