We are not your average workplace.
We’re looking for an AUV Operations Specialist to join our Solutions business unit and play a hands‑on role in delivering autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) missions, trials, demonstrations, and wider marine operations. You will operate AUV systems in the field, support mission execution, and ensure safe, reliable, and high‑quality delivery of survey outcomes.
This position works in close partnership with the Field Lead: The Field Lead owns broader marine operations and survey workflows, while the AUV Operations Specialist focuses on AUV operation, mission execution, system readiness, and client‑facing technical delivery.
The role is suited to a practical, safety‑focused operator with experience in marine survey, offshore work, or robotics‑based field delivery, and who thrives in dynamic, hands‑on environments.
What you will be doing
- Operate and support AUV systems across trials, deployments, and client missions, delivering missions safely and in line with procedures while monitoring navigation, performance, and system health
- Support launch, recovery, mobilisation, and day‑to‑day handling of AUV platforms, coordinating closely with the Field Lead and Southampton‑based Operations Technicians
- Act as a client‑facing technical operator, providing clear updates on mission status, system performance, and operational progress during trials and deployments
- Assist with vehicle preparation, configuration, testing, and pre‑deployment checks; carry out basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and fault‑finding on AUV systems and payloads
- Support acquisition and QC of navigation and survey data, and assist with integration and configuration of navigation, survey, and payload systems, including PNT setup under Field Lead direction
- Operate in accordance with HSEQ procedures, contribute to safe systems of work, develop competency across AUV platforms, support training/demonstrations, and participate in offshore and field deployments with flexibility for short‑notice mobilisation
Who you are
- Experienced in marine survey, offshore operations, or robotics‑based field delivery, with a strong practical mindset and commitment to safe execution
- Comfortable working in field environments and multi‑disciplinary teams, with the ability to communicate clearly with clients and technical stakeholders
- Capable of supporting AUV operations, mission execution, and basic system troubleshooting, with an interest in autonomous systems and marine robotics
- Able to meet recognised medical fitness requirements for marine operations (ENG1 or equivalent), with willingness to obtain offshore certification such as BOSIET/FOET
Desirable
- Experience operating AUV systems in field environments
- Familiarity with acoustic positioning systems such as USBL or LBL
- Exposure to marine survey sensors, data workflows, and QC processes
- Background in robotics, autonomy, or marine technology
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel and work irregular hours to meet operational windows
