Zen Educate

Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Nottingham
Salary: £190 - £340 per day
Contract type: Full time

Location: Central Nottingham (Multiple Sites)

Position Type: Maternity Cover (Full-Time)

Setting: Alternative Provision (Primary & Secondary)

Are you an experienced SENCO looking for a meaningful leadership role in Nottingham?

Zen Educate is seeking a highly organised and passionate SENCO to provide maternity cover for a dynamic Alternative Provision based in Central Nottingham. This unique setting caters to students aged 7 to 16 who have been disengaged from mainstream education, often presenting with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and complex learning barriers.

Spanning multiple sites across the city, this role requires a leader who is mobile, adaptable, and committed to ensuring that every child—regardless of their background—receives the specialist support they deserve.

The Role

As the SENCO for this Central Nottingham provision, you will oversee the strategic direction of SEN support across multiple locations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and maintaining the SEN register and EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) reviews for students aged 7 to 16.
  • Coordinating with external agencies, parents, and local authorities to ensure holistic support.
  • Mentoring and supporting staff across different sites to implement effective SEN strategies.
  • Tracking pupil progress and ensuring that interventions are high-impact and data-driven.
  • Leading on the transition process for pupils entering or leaving the Alternative Provision.

Why Choose Zen Educate?

Zen Educate is a Social Enterprise, not a traditional recruitment agency. We believe in transparency, fairness, and keeping more money within the Nottingham education system.

  • Higher Pay: Our technology reduces overheads, allowing us to offer more competitive rates for senior roles like this SENCO position.
  • No "Buy-Out" Fees: We never charge schools to take you on permanently if a long-term fit is found.
  • Streamlined Tech: Manage your multi-site schedule and compliance via our simple, intuitive app.
  • Ethical Mission: Work with a partner that prioritises the well-being of staff and the financial health of schools in the West Midlands and East Midlands.

Requirements

To be successful in this SENCO maternity cover role, you must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO).
  • Proven experience as a SENCO, ideally within an Alternative Provision or with students exhibiting SEMH needs.
  • The ability to manage a workload across multiple sites in Central Nottingham.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire a diverse team of educators.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
